Couscous Sur Les Ondes

It started out as a video project about life in the neighbourhood, friends, young people from North Africa and others. The lads from the ‘Le Clou’ Youth Centre had things to say and show, and they wanted to do it in a different way – with a bit of humour, in a relaxed, laid-back sort of way. And then, lo and behold, they’d barely started when one of them was arrested for ‘petty theft’, a minor offence. Bad luck, it was the lead actor. And yes, it’s always the best ones who get caught up in it. Tough, tough. The situation gets worse: the mate risks being deported from the country! So there you go, goodbye fiction, hello sad reality. We’ve got to get our mate out of the slammer. With all that going on, the video project is put on hold for a bit and then, quite naturally, shifts focus to the risks of deportation due to ‘foreign criminality’.

‘Couscous Sur Les Ondes’ was co-produced by the Maison des Jeunes le Clou, the J. Jacqmotte Foundation, the Vidéobus de Bruxelles, the Atelier Jeunes Cinéastes and RTBF-Bruxelles!
